When You Can’t Decide

On a Travel Destination

When you can’t decide on a travel destination, you need to keep in mind the following questions:
* What is the maximum amount of money that you are able to spend?
* What are your travel accommodations when you have to pay for it?
* What are your exact vacation dates?
* Who are you traveling with?
* Do you want to relax, have fun and party, or visit popular tourist spots?
* Do you want a cruise or land-based vacation?

With answers to these questions, you are now ready to call your travel consultant … me.

Let’s explore these questions a little more.

What is the maximum amount of money that you are able to spend?
What you want to spend and what you can afford to spend are two different things. You waste time if you are not being honest with this question. A vacation for your planned time off in the next three months is not the time to plan your dream vacation. Unless you already have the finances or won a lottery, you may need time to save up money for your vacation. Be as realistic as possible.

What are your travel accommodations when YOU have to pay for it?
You have to pay it. If you are accustomed to traveling to meetings using your job’s expense account, you really have to consider how that $189 or $250 per night hotel stay affects your personal bank account. When the cost is adding up for someone else, all you feel is the luxury of the accommodations. You become accustomed to traveling this way … until the money comes out of your personal bank account. Understand that nice accommodations come with a price. Many people want a cheap price for luxury. Thus … the coined phrase “Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget” – defined by YourDictionary.Com as “having expensive wants or preferences which one lacks the finances to fulfill satisfactorily.” Is this You?

What are your exact vacation dates
This question is self-explanatory. It is the When of every English paper assignment you have done in school. I, as your travel consultant, cannot research a trip for you without knowing your exact travel dates. Different days of the week and different months of the year cost different prices. Weekends usually cost more than weekdays. Prices during the summer months differ from prices during the winter season.

Who are you traveling with?
Also, you should identify the number of people in your group. Single rates versus double occupancy rates can differ drastically.

Do you want to relax, have fun and party, or visit popular tourist spots?
You would be surprised how many people think this question is not important until they arrive at their destination. Let me list a few places and let you be your own guide on this one. Check out a few visual comparisons:

Do you want a cruise or land-based vacation?
Another factor that is self-explanatory. Do you want to spend the majority of your vacation sailing the ocean on a ship and visiting various destinations or do you want to spend it at one land destination?

Use these questions as a guide while you consider the many different ways to explore the world. Keep an open mind about the adventure and the cost. If you pay more than you can afford, you will expect more than you should. Expect to get what you pay for.
There are no free rides, but I can show you how to make the ride you pay for an enjoyable one.
